I'm a big fan of family-owned places, and Raku Guest House gives off that homey vibe. It's a great example of a family teaming up to run a successful business. I echo what others have said before me, so I'll keep it short.
Everyone here speaks good English and is a super helpful source for info about nearby attractions. I left my heavy luggage at the Guest House and tackled the Markha Valley with a lightweight backpack. In a nutshell, Raku Guest House is a solid backpacker-friendly spot, maybe a tad pricier, but totally worth it.

Stayed here with my son for two nights before and two nights after our Markha Valley/Stok Kangri trek. We had this place booked as part of our trekking package, for our non-trekking days. A small boutique guesthouse run by the loveliest family you can have as your hosts in Leh. As soon as we arrived early morning on day 1, we were welcomed into the guesthouse, and breakfast was served. We were on a three-meal-a-day plan.
With no more than a dozen rooms, this place is as homely as it gets. It has a sitting room upstairs where most rooms are located. Look out into the garden, and you'll see beautiful flowers and a big vegetable patch (where our vegetables for dinner come directly from! Freshly harvested daily). Rooms were very neat and clean, and we leave our shoes at the entrance, which is a good idea. Hot showers throughout the night via a solar heater storage tank. Wifi is provided. Side excursions were arranged without hassle, and we even had our laundry done here after our trek. They tap their water from an underground source of more than 100 feet, we were told. Meals are had in the family kitchen, which is neat and tidy. We can see that great pains are taken to keep this place clean and tidy.
Coming back to this place after our trek was like coming back home. One can walk about 15-20 mins to the town center via a bumpy dusty road, but a short taxi ride would also solve this. Food served here is vegetarian but was more than adequate for us. There is a nice seating area outside the house with a great view of the Stok range and Stok Kangri. Great experience. Great place. Would definitely use this place as a base if we get back to Ladakh.

The Raku guesthouse in Leh is like a beautifully kept "oasis" in the bustling Leh, within walking distance to the market, and yet remarkably quiet. The new rooms are just perfect—spacious, comfy beds, very clean, with a decent shower, big windows overlooking the beautiful garden, water kettle, wifi, and more. The owner's family is incredibly nice and interesting to talk to. Whenever a question arises, Sonam or his family has a solution and answers. Sonam, the manager, and the whole family truly embody hospitality, and they are always available whenever there's a question or request. They offer delicious homemade and local meals, and their garden is so inviting that one ends up sitting much longer than intended. A big thank you to Sonam and family for hosting me and providing so much useful information and recommendations!
