When traveling to Nubra, you'll discover hotels primarily in either Hunder or Sumur. Hunder attracts tourists with its sand dunes, ATVs, and double-humped camels, while Sumur, lacking these attractions, boasts stunning scenery.
In Nubra, visitors often choose between the Siachen Base Camp or Turtuk Village. Sumur (and this hotel) is on the path to the Siachen Base Camp but is 80 kms away from Hunder, situated on the route to Diskit Monastery and Turtuk Village. Consider this information for budget and itinerary planning before selecting a hotel in Sumur or Hunder.
Now, about the review: this hotel is located in Sumur. The approach is a small, unpaved, single-lane road, common for many hotels in the area. The hotel provides parking for 3-4 cars on the property. The place is peaceful with abundant quaking aspens. We stayed at Namgyal Villa for 2 nights. Namgyal Villa is a well-maintained family-run hotel with around 8-10 rooms; the corner rooms are more spacious. We had the luxury of choosing our room as the only guests upon arrival. All rooms were clean, with spacious bathrooms and hot water available 24/7. The king-size beds were comfortable with clean bed linen. Rooms were equipped with TVs. The owner family is friendly and helpful, especially Mr. Norboo, who ensured our comfortable settlement. The hotel has a kitchen facility where staff cooks food as per your order. While you shouldn't expect a vast variety of cuisines, the food, typical of a family-run hotel in the remote Nubra region, tasted good. Overall, a pleasant, clean stay at a very reasonable price.

A simple, clean, and cozy room. The surroundings are picturesque, and the vegetable garden is truly admirable. I enjoyed some of the best vegetarian dishes. The hosts are friendly and enjoy a good chat. Simply sitting outdoors in the garden brings a sense of peace and tranquility. The market is just a one-kilometer walk down a narrow winding path, shared with well-mannered cows and donkeys moving in a single file to accommodate both cars and pedestrians. Definitely worth a visit.

Situated in the model village of Sumur, you get a glimpse of typical Ladakhi village life. The owner and manager warmly welcomed us and directed us to our rooms. The atmosphere within the property is ideal for unwinding. Considering the price we paid for the booking, we were quite happy with the rooms. Having hot water available throughout the day proved essential during our stay. Yet, I believe the hotel could attract more travelers by upgrading the room quality. While the lunch/dinner was tasty, we found it slightly pricey. Nevertheless, exceptional hospitality and service define our overall experience. If you aim to embrace typical village life, this is the place to be. Plus, it aligns perfectly with our budget.
