When exploring Pangong, most people stay at Spangmik or Lunkung for an overnight stay. I highly suggest considering Man or Merak for a more serene Pangong experience with fewer tourists. Our choice was Astrostays Pangong Lake homestay in Man village, right on the Pangong lake's bank. Staying in a local's house offered a genuine local experience while supporting the livelihood of the residents. Angmo, our homestay owner, was exceptionally helpful and treated us to delicious Ladakhi dishes. We enjoyed the company of Padma and another kid, engaging in delightful conversations throughout the evening. Recommendation: Arrive at Pangong around 2-3 PM, capture moments at the 3 Idiots shooting point, and unwind at Astrostays in Man village in the evening. Wake up early to witness the breathtaking sunrise and depart after breakfast. The place is also renowned for stargazing, although we missed out due to unfavorable weather. Hoping for another visit, especially for this unique experience.

The customer service at this homestay is very bad. It's too expensive, considering the lack of basic facilities. The owner and his wife are friendly, but it seems his son, who handles bookings, is very rude. Despite not taking an extra bed, the son charged us for it. When questioned, he rudely said it's our problem for not taking an extra bed. The stay is expensive for a homestay with limited facilities. Considering the price, there are better options available or places with lower rates. It's not close to the lake, and reaching the main area takes about 15 minutes.

What We Liked: Our room was spacious, clean, and offered a wonderful view of Pangong Lake. The homestay itself was delightful, and the family extended a warm welcome. The homemade food was delicious, prepared in true home-style fashion, and they ensured it was served promptly upon request. Although the bathroom wasn't attached to the room, we were informed about it. We personally didn't find it inconvenient. The bathroom, though basic, was clean and well-maintained. The location of the homestay, just a 7-minute walk to the lake, was excellent. Situated along the road, the homestay provided proximity to the lake while offering privacy and seclusion, a feature we appreciated.
Areas for Improvement: Pangong Lake accommodations are scattered across various villages, and this homestay is in Man Village, a bit farther down the lake, adding approximately 20-30 minutes to the journey. Some villages, like Spangmik, are quicker to reach. While it didn't bother us, potential guests might consider this when comparing stays before booking.
